Tasmanian titanium, Queensland beechwood, an etched Australian crystal globe, and a 2-inch opal from the mines of the Outback make the prestigious award representing the best of Australia. It is a work of art and an honor to receive.
Each year, during the annual Corroboree, Tourism Australia recognizes outstanding work in sharing the wonders of visiting Australia. This year the gala event was held at the famous Tjapakai Aboriginal Cultural Center in Cairns, Queensland, with over 200 Aussie Specialists and tourism suppliers/operators from all over North American and Australia.
The Opal Awards represent the BEST of the best. There are five categories in which one can be considered, and on September 13th 2006, the award for Best Creative Marketing was presented to PREMIER Aussie Specialist, Matt Knowles of Sea Escape TRAVEL.
This is the 2nd time he has been recognized by Tourism Australia. His first “Opal Award” was received in 2002, for Best Consumer Event. Matt is the ONLY recipient of two Opal Awards in The Sacramento/Northern California area.
Tourism Australia designates Aussie Specialists, people who have demonstrated their travel knowledge of Australia. PREMIER Aussie specialists are designated as the best of the experts.
